There are many different types, colors, styles and shingles now days for your roof. But which one is right for you? A top roofing company called Hilson Roofing will inform us about the different roofing materials available on the market for homeowners.
The most common type of shingle is the asphalt shingle. Many American homes have asphalt shingles on their roofs, the reasons are pretty simple, easy to install, easy on your wallet and are easily resilient. The downside to the most popular shingle in American, they have a shorter life and the insulation is not up to par as some of the other materials offered. Another downfall of these shingles would be they’re not as green friendly as most would like them to be. They come in multiple colors, can be installed by even the most basic roofer and price wise are very affordable.
A choice that will not be friendly on your wallet but will definitely add style and value to your home is Clay and Concrete Tiles. These tiles are very popular in warmer climates. The style is impeccable; the elegance it adds will make anyone jealous of your new roof. The down side, they are very heavy, if your roof is not set up to support them, you will need to add framing to your roof. The initial cost of this style of roofing is very expensive but for some it may be worth it. They’re very durable, green friendly as well as reflect 50% of the sun’s heat.
If style is something you’re looking for Wood shingles and shakes are a good option. They come in very nice wooden styles. They look great on ranches. The downfall, the maintenance requirements are also second to none, their fire rating is very poor and they will rot, split or collect mold. Another option if you’re looking for this same style is recycled synthetic shakes, there life span is much longer and their maintenance is not nearly as high. One downfall of these shakes is that they’re not as environmentally friendly as many would hope.
Last but not least we have Fiber Cement. The materials used for this style are clay, concrete and wood fiber. This combination makes the materials fireproof as well as durable. Typically used for warming climates because they will crack in colder weather. Another plus is the fact they’re lighter than clay tiles or concrete which means you will not need to spend money on additional framing for your home. Fiber Cement comes in a variety of colors and textures. For the green member in your family, tell them not to worry, they can be recycled as well.
So whether you’re looking for, style, texture, color, durability or environmental friendly it’s all out on the market. Some materials are more expensive than others, some more traditional and some more exotic. When making this decision, do your research, it will definitely be worth it. After all you didn’t get without going on a date; don’t make a multiple year relationship without finding out more information and facts.
